Fertility and Wellness Services

Reduces stress, increasing quality of life, stimulating blood flow to the uterus, influencing the menstrual cycle and ovulation.

All our physiotherapists are qualified to use acupuncture for pain relief, using a mixture of Western science and Eastern teaching.

Acupuncture can help prepare the body for a cycle of IVF or IUI by improving the quality of eggs and sperm, reducing stress and tension in the body and helping to reduce side effects from medication. It also helps clients relax during what can be an emotional and stressful time for them.

By needling a point on a blocked meridian, blood supply is restored and the nerve and stretch receptors are stimulated, aiding a release in the trigger point and helping to restore the meridian and aid the healing process.

Acupuncture works extremely well for most people and there are rarely any side effects. It is a natural way to seek pain relief and ease pain symptoms and associated dysfunctions. Most people feel immediate effects but it is always recommended that acupuncture is used at least three times to have a lasting effect on a condition.

All these problems can be discussed with the physiotherapists here who, if cannot directly deal with the problem, can refer you to a traditional Chinese acupuncturist.

Floatation Tank

Isopod tanks block outside stimuli while a supersaturated Epsom salt solution allows you to experience weightlessness

What is a Floatation Tank Experience?
Our Isopod tanks are specifically designed to block out all external distractions including sight, sound, tactile sensations and gravity. The floatation experience is delivered through a supersaturated Epsom-salt solution and the solution is heated to skin temperature. Once you are settled, it is impossible to tell which parts of your body are in the water and which are not. This creates an environment similar to that of the Dead Sea but without the sensation of temperature or movement, which lets you float effortlessly on the surface of the water, enjoying a feeling of total freedom and weightlessness.

Your first float might feel like magic, however floatation therapy is the result of 30 years of mainstream scientific research in human performance and wellness. Best of all, the effects of floatation are cumulative – the more often you float, the better it is for your health, happiness and performance.

Benefits:
Improve heart and circulatory health
Stimulate Lymphatic Drainage
Detoxifying
Ease muscle pain
Reduce blood clots and lower blood pressure
Improve the body’s ability to use insulin
Improve nerve function by regulating electrolytes
Relieve stress and foster a feeling of well-being and relaxation

Fertility and Floating

Fertility Benefits of Floating
Floatation therapy is the most powerful stress relief technique known. For fertility treatment, we recommend for women, a course of ten floats in a month, approximately every two to three days right through the fertile period. The degree of relaxation achieved is wonderful and will of course benefit you in many ways but if stress is the principal cause of your failure to conceive, then floating really is the best treatment.

Floating in Pregnancy

Wonderful Relief for mothers-to-be
Mid-term pregnant women often find considerable relief from pain and stiffness, particularly while floating prone, with elbows on the floor of the tank and chin cupped in hands. In this position the fetus is fully floating and the mother’s back and pelvic girdle are released from load. What a good idea!

PRECAUTIONS
Please be aware of the following precautions before booking your Floatation Tank Experience:
It is inadvisable for sufferers of epilepsy, schizophrenia or acute skin disorders to use the floatation tank
It is inadvisable to use the floatation tank under the influence of alcohol or drugs
You are unable to use the tank if you are suffering from any form of ear infection
You have sufficient mobility to get in and out of the Floatation Tank unaided

Non-surgical Facial Rejuvenation Treatments

Specialist solutions to treat everything from pigmentation problems to facial lines and excessive sweating

We are pleased to offer the following new non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments. All treatments are carried out by our highly qualified practicing GP and Medical Cosmetic Specialist Dr Naylor, who is a member of the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors and carries full medical insurance with The Medical Defence Union and Hamilton Fraser Aesthetic Insurance.

Wrinkle relaxing injections
Using Botox©, Azzalure© and Dysport© to temporarily reduce contraction of the facial muscles thus smoothing lines. The effects of the treatment last between three and four months and take up to two weeks to take effect.

Lip Augmentation
Dr Naylor specialises in the natural lip look, enhancing the client’s lips using Restylane© or Juvederm ULTRA ©. These are synthetic hyaluronic acid dermal fillers which gradually are naturally broken down by the body. They contain an anaesthetic, making treatments almost pain free. Treatments last from six months to one year.

Facial Lines
Using Restylane©, Juvederm ULTRA© or Teosyal© lines and folds from nose to mouth and those around the corners of the mouth can be smoothed by adding volume immediately and more long term by stimulating collagen production. The effect is immediate and lasts from six months to one year.

Hyperhidrosis/ Excessive Sweating
Botulinum toxin can be injected into the sweat glands in the armpits and palms of the hands to stop excessive sweating. This involves tiny injections using a microfine needle placed 1cm apart superficially into the skin of the armpit or palms of the hands. The treatment takes effect within five days and can last up to six months and can give confidence back to those whose sweating has a major impact on their lives.

Pigmentation Problems and Skin Rejuvenation
Obagi is a prescription only skin care system that will be specifically tailored to your clinical needs by Dr Naylor. It corrects hyperpigmentation, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles by penetrating below the surface of the skin to transform cell function at the cellular level and correct damage from within.

VibroGym and Powerplate

The VibroGym and Power Plate is a new concept in fitness training and rehabilitation.

It uses vibration passed through a platform to the body. This vibration causes the muscle to go through a stretch reflex contraction 30 -60 times a second. This intense, repetitive contraction fatigues the muscle, allowing it to grow stronger in the recovery phase to withstand the increased effort. This is all achieved while putting less stress on the joints, tendons and ligaments.

The VibroGym has been shown to have the same effect in 12 minutes as you get with 90 minutes of conventional exercise.

The VibroGym has been proven to have the following benefits:
Weight loss
Increased metabolism
Increased flexibility
Increased strength/power
Reduced pain
Increased circulation

Research has shown benefit using the VibroGym in the following conditions:

MS patients
Postoperative rehabilitation
Speed training
Power training
Core stability
Joint problems
Gait correction
Spinal alignment
Pain reduction
Sports injury

The VibroGym and Power Plate is available at Emma James Physio. We have physiotherapists trained to assist you in gaining the most from your VibroGym experience.

Cancer Rehabilitation Services

LPG body massage, physiotherapy and clinical pilates are among the treatments offered to support you on your cancer journey

LPG

This device is beneficial pre and post surgery and treats issues including pain, scars and cellulite

What is LPG?
LPG Body Massage uses a device that combines deep tissue massage with suction, providing men and women of all ages with natural cell, tissue, joint and muscle treatments to improve their health and wellbeing.

LPG can be used to treat the following concerns:
Pain: the treatments considerably reduce physical signs and symptoms (such as erythema, induration, pain, loss of joint mobility, muscle tensions, stiffness, soreness, etc.) so as to pave the way for a rapid return to an active life.

Scars: the medical endermologie® technique’s draining and de-fibrosing properties allow scars and burn scars to be painlessly worked on at an early stage. First, it helps to eliminate waste so as to effectively drain the tissue and prevents the formation of scar adherences related to fibrosis. Next, this treatment stimulates natural collagen and elastin production to improve the healing process in order to ease pain and restore mobility.

Cellulite: it restores the normal, healthy appearance of the thighs, buttocks, torso, and other parts of the body affected by cellulite. It also tones the skin by activating the natural synthesis of collagen and elastin and reactivates circulatory exchanges.

Heavy leg and water retention: it stimulates the elimination functions as well as venous and lymphatic circulation, mobilising nearly one litre of water* for an immediate feeling of well-being and is safe for use during pregnancy.

Post-operative breast cancer: reduces secondary lymphoedema and inflammation in order to limit the appearance of adherences. Helps stimulate the microcirculation and activate collagen and elastin production to facilitate scarring, minimize pain, and restore mobility.

Excessive weight and obesity: stimulates natural lipolyse to break down fat, especially the most resistant kinds of fat and tones the skin loosened by weight loss.

Pre and Post surgery: helps prepare and soften skin tissue to limit side effects and complications, facilitate the procedure, and thus maximise surgery’s success. After the operation, the treatment’s draining effect allows edema and bruises from the surgery to be absorbed more quickly. Simultaneously, the LPG treatment head stimulates the cells of the dermis (fibroblasts) so as to restore skin suppleness and elasticity and promote healing.

Cancer Rehabilitation

Maximise recovery, regain physical and emotional strength and improve body confidence and control

Optimal health is far more than just the removal of disease or mechanical dysfunction. The role of the therapist is to guide, facilitate and motivate you to become a better, more efficient self, whatever your treatment journey and outcome.

The programme is delivered by certified PINC Cancer Rehab Physiotherapists and provides a full range of services designed to care, support and guide women through every stage of their treatment and recovery.

The PINC rehabilitation programme is chronologically formatted into four phases. The timing of each phase is dependent upon the person’s physical condition, the length of the healing process, the type of surgery involved and the courses of adjuvant treatments.

Pre-op Phase – is designed to help patients before their cancer surgery. It involves a pre-op assessment and education to identify any factors that may affect recovery from surgery and return to work. A pre-op rehab plan will be devised for each individual which will include specific exercises to strengthen muscles and improve stamina; education and functional guidance.

Post-op Phase – is designed to assist in the healing process of patients who are recently post surgery. It aims to restore strength and flexibility to particular joints and muscle groups that have become weak and inflexible as a result of surgery. Includes manual physiotherapy and gentle modified exercises to maximise recovery from surgery, education and functional guidance for home and work.

Adjuvant Cancer Treatment Phase – designed to improve energy levels and maintain health during cancer treatments to reduce the impact on physical functioning and overall conditioning. It aims to help patients manage fatigue, flexibility, strength and stamina to reduce time off work, muscle wasting and functional impairment. In addition to focusing on stretching and strengthening exercises for the upper and lower extremities, it contains workouts to improve abdominal strength and spinal stability; education about fatigue management, home and work-based modifications and cardiovascular exercise.

Fitness Phase – Designed to facilitate overall conditioning to increase physical stamina after treatments are completed. It aims to improve cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility to increase endurance, elevate the metabolism, and improve muscle tone and body composition. The exercise selection focuses on improving physical functioning to maximise recovery to return to work, and live a full and productive life. Education on fatigue management, return to work, sport and leisure activities.

Cancer rehabilitation physiotherapy can help you in a number of ways:
Optimise physical and functional recovery

Pre natal and post natal services Services

A range of targeted treatments for all new and expectant mothers as they navigate the highs and lows of motherhood

Clinical Pilates

Pilates-trained physiotherapists help you gain greater control over your spinal issues and improve fitness

The aim of clinical pilates is to assess the movement and control of the lower back and pelvic region, then use specific exercises to help correct the problem areas. The focus is on teaching the brain to recruit the correct muscle groups to find the correct pattern of movement than on the strength and length of muscles and joints.

Here at Emma James Physio, we have pilates trained physiotherapists ready to assist you with finding greater control over your spinal problems. Our tailor-made classes pinpoint the weak areas of the body and relevant exercises are taught to create a more balanced and injury-free body.

All people wanting to join our classes must first undergo a one-to-one session with one of our trained physiotherapists to assess and diagnose your injury and to talk you through the core principles of pilates. This will allow you to then join our classes with a good knowledge of what you should be aiming to achieve in each session.

Classes are graded by difficulty to accommodate all levels of participants, from beginners through to advanced.

We have a maximum of four people in a session to ensure that you receive the attention you need from our expert, who can offer you one-to-one tailored guidance.

Pre and Post Natal Pilates

Our personal trainers offer exclusive, bespoke pilates classes to help you feel your best, no matter where you are on your motherhood journey

Pilates is becoming more and more popular for pregnant and post-natal women, as it can help you get the most out of your pregnancy and to actually enjoy the feelings of your developing body. As well as strengthening your core and joints, pilates is also very helpful in breathing control and relaxation, which we know is very important in circulation and opening of the lower ribs and diaphragm, often compromised in pregnancy, and a general feeling of wellbeing.

High hormone levels during pregnancy relaxes the ligaments and muscles, loosening joints and often leading to pain in the back, groin or even down the leg. Pilates focuses on strength and core stability as well as posture. It can help tighten the muscles around those joints, thus easing pain and helping prevent the instability developing into further problems such as a disc bulge or chronic pain.

At Emma James Wellbeing, our pilates classes have been modified and developed to individual needs. For example we know that after the first trimester you need to avoid exercising flat on your back so a prop cushion is used in classes. We know that excessive yoga stretches are to be avoided as you are more likely to overstretch during pregnancy due to hormone changes.

Our pilates classes are kept to a maximum of four people so your instructor can ensure your routine is specifically designed for you and your condition.

We offer advice and treatment on how to manage back and pelvic pain during and after pregnancy. We can also help with more delicate issues such as stress incontinence and other pelvic control issues that often develop after pregnancy or surgery in a tactful, sensitive way.

Pelvi Power

The PelviPower chair strengthens the pelvic floor after birth, and treats bladder weakness, menopause, back pain, prostatectomy, strengthening, posture and much more.

What is Pelvi Power?

The newly developed Pelvi Power Chair is based on magnetic field stimulation and the bio-feedback of your body. Gentle pulses gradually increase, which signals the nerves to tell the muscles to contract. This causes the brain to recall ALL areas of the pelvic floor as the muscles automatically react to the stimulus. This not only trains and strengthens the muscles, but also makes the brain include them again in its daily movement routine.

Before PelviPower training, the untrained pelvic floor cannot support the organs adequately.
During PelviPower training, the magnetic field waves train and strengthen the pelvic floor.
After PelviPower training the pelvic floor can work properly again.

Men’s Health Services

Pelvic Floor Training for Men

Boosting sexual potency and stimulating healthy blood flow are among the many benefits of our pelvic floor training designed specifically for men

Pelvic Floor Training for Men
A strong pelvic floor is a subject that applies to men just as much as women. The PelviPower Training helps men in case of erectile dysfunction and weak potency. It stimulates blood flow in the genital area and leads to the normalisation of muscle tone in the pelvic floor. Also after prostate operations with incontinence complaints, the PelviPower can achieve a significant improvement of the symptoms. Whether for prevention, in rehabilitation facilities or as preparation for an operation to the urogenital system.

What is the Pelvic Floor?
The pelvic floor is a connective tissue and muscular floor. Its task is to tighten, to relax and in case of a pressure increase (sneezing…) to create a counterpressure. Through operations, sport, hormonal changes etc. the pelvic floor can be weakened. If the pelvic floor is not trained well, this muscle cannot support the organs (urethra, urinary bladder, rectum) adequately anymore , and during sexual intercourse can no longer adequately tighten and relax. This can lead to urinary leakage (incontinence) or erectile dysfunction.

Aims of Treatment:
Help against erectile dysfunction
Stimulation of blood flow in the genital area
Potency increase and better sex
Delayed ejaculation (delaying of premature orgasm)
Help before/after a prostatectomy (prostate removal) with incontinence complaints
Prevention of incontinence

Advantages of PelviPower training for men:
Strengthening of the muscles through magnetic field training
Easy and pain-free training
Non-invasive training, i.e: You sit on a chair and train in your everyday clothing
Stronger effect than conventional independent training
Noticeable, muscle-stimulating effect from the first session
